Samsung-led constortium to build 100MW project in Macedonia

MACEDONIA: A South Korean-Spanish consortium will start work in 2011 on four wind projects in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia worth around €150 million. According to the Macedonian Economic Chamber, the consortium comprises South Korea's Samsung Heavy Industries, power producer Korea South-East Power Co (KOSEP), and Spanish engineering and consultancy company Invall.The project will have a total installed power of 100MW. It will be spread across four locations near Stip, 110km east of the capital city of Skopje. The project will be completed by the end of 2012. The consortium plans to operate the wind farm for 20 years. Samsung Heavy and KOSEP will fund around 51% of the project, with the remainder to be financed by the Macedonian government and the EBRD.
